IT'S NOT NICE TO STARE

I embarrassed myself so badly at the chinese food place here in town the other night. There was a group at a table near us who had a baby that looked so much like Alexis AKA Burgh Baby that I couldn't quit staring! The mom kept looking at me, so I finally got up, went over to the table and apoligized and explained that their adorable baby looked like a little girl I know. (Didn't explain how. Didn't figure they'd understand! LOL!) Well, that just made matters worse because big, macho, good ol' boy dad was seriously offended that I thought his SON looked like a girl. So much so that he told his wife she wasn't ever to put that sissy turtleneck shirt on him again! I had to excuse myself and go crack up in the bathroom!

See - I don't just bother people in airports! I'm an equal opportunity blogservationsit!

  1. I see it the other way. I know very well that if Alexis is dressed in Steelers gear that doesn't have pink all over it, she is mistaken for a boy every.single.time. She also could easily be mistaken for many of her male cousins. If only that Dad wasn't so insecure that he couldn't see things the other way!

Let's not even get into the fact that she looks exactly like her Dad . . .

  3. Oh my! That's almost as bad as when I asked the lady when she was due...

You can figure out what happened next. :-)

  4. I think most men take a long time to get used to 'strange' women noticing their children. And us mature ladies can seem strange at times! Poor man to feel so threatened.

  5. Well, welcome back. I just caught up on your blogs. Great airport stuff. Did you write all that down or remember it? How funny about the little boy looking like Alexis. But I've done the same thing before. :):)

  6. At least you didn't tell them that their baby looks like your dog or your 90 year old grandpa...

  7. My girls used to get mistaken for boys when they were wearing pink, ribbons, lace, and hair accessories.

My boys got mistaken for girls when they were dressed in sport clothes and were wearing ball caps. Of course, we didn't cut the boys' hair until they were two and by then both of them had long curly hair. ;)

  9. LOL BBM! How could anybody mistake that beautiful face for a male?? Even if you put her in a football helmit with black under-eye smear stuff on her face??? LOL!

UTmom - The way the mom reacted, I'm not sure that big guy ever relaxes much!

OH MYLHIBUG! I've done that twice! Now I'm gonna have to go write them up. Thanks for the reminder - even as embarrassing as it is! LOL!

Dragonstar - I am forever stopping and cooing over babies. Can't help it. Maybe if I ever get grandbabies of my own I won't be so envious of others' wee ones. Hubby use to get upset with me. Now he's just resigned himself to the fact that I AM GOING TO DO IT! lol!

Hi Margie! I didn't write every airport scene down word for word - just enough shorthand to make sure I remembered the conversations... except the little girl on the phone. That one happened in the bathroom stall next to me so I had plenty of time to make sure I got it down right then and there so I wouldn't miss a word!

Hey Angela! How was the trip?? Glad you stopped by. I'll be over there soon.

Michelle - I actually think the guy would have been LESS offended if I'd compared the kid to my dog! AACK!

Brandi - Surely there aren't that many seriously mmm... how can I say this delicately??... STUPID and visually challenged people running around Utah??? LOL!!

AZ - thank you! I hope so too. Wouldn't it be fun to have a way to do that!

  10. No, not Utah. I'm in Ohio.

Do you know the bare spots babies sometimes get on the back of their heads from being on their backs? My oldest daughter has dark hair. Her hair was long and curly as a baby and she didn't like being on her tummy so she had a big white spot on the back of her head where she had rubbed the hair off. We were actually asked one time, "Did you shave that baby's head?".

  11. Yes, Damama T. Some wonderful stranger commented on my beautiful girl's curls seven years ago. Problem was that it was my son when he was a baby and HE did have beautiful curls. Wanna know what happened? My husband waited til I went to work that Saturday and gave him a buzz cut. I cried all evening when I got home.

Susan - AND HE LIVED TO TELL THE STORY??? Oh, I'd have done sooooo much more than just cry about it! What is it with some men??? GRRRR! Obviously you didn't kill him, and your son survived, but grrrr!! Hope you had lots of pictures of the curls.

How's the diet going? I'll be over soon to check it out. xoxo

  13. Boys can be so pretty! That happened to my cousin once when he was a baby, and my uncle immediately went home and cut off all of his beautiful blond curls. Us ladies were devastated!

  15. That is so funny! when I was little people thought I was a boy up until I was almost 3 because I was bald! But I guess its not as bad as when I was at Walmart, and was looking for something and asked the first person I saw for help...

Excuse me mam, can you tell me where the sunscreen would be..

(in a deep voice) "I'm a dude not a chick."

He never did tell me where to find it!
